Members Advised to Check PPL Performer Line-Ups on Recordings

PPL (the organisation that collects and distributes royalties for recorded music when it’s played in public or broadcast) is currently investigating reports of inaccurate performer line-ups. MU members are urged to report if they see individuals listed who did not perform on their recording.

The MU has been made aware of recent concerns regarding A&R personnel (Artists and Repertoire – talent scouts and artist developers at record labels) being listed in PPL performer line-ups, despite not having performed on the recordings in question. PPL is actively looking into these issues.

Each week approximately 45,000 new sound recordings from record companies and other entities are received for processing. These submissions often include performer line-up information.

As a performer—or through your appointed representative—you have the right to link yourself to recordings you’ve contributed to. Once linked, you can view the full list of credited performers for that recording.

If you notice any inaccuracies—such as individuals being listed who did not perform—you can challenge the line-up. PPL will investigate, and in some cases, accounts may be placed on hold during the review process to ensure accuracy and fairness.

Action for members

If you believe a recording you’re linked to contains incorrect contributor information, please contact the PPL Member Services team  as soon as possible. They are there to support you and ensure your work is properly recognised.

Alternatively you can contact our Royalties department via royalties@themu.org.uk if you need further advice or support.
